Wood burners & multi-fuel

Wood-burning stove sweeping

Stoves burn hotter and cleaner than open fires, but liners still collect tar and soot — and the appliance itself needs checking every year.

How we sweep a stove

The stove is swept through the appliance using rods and brushes matched to your liner type, so a flexible stainless liner is never damaged by the wrong head. Deposits are drawn straight into a HEPA vacuum, then the flue is checked and smoke tested before your certificate is issued.

The appliance check

  • Baffle or throat plate condition and correct seating
  • Rope seals around the door and glass
  • Firebricks and grate condition
  • Air controls moving freely
  • Signs of over-firing, corrosion or tar run-back

We'll tell you plainly what needs attention and what can safely wait another season. We don't upsell parts you don't need.

Burning well between sweeps

Most tar problems we find come down to fuel and airflow. Burn well-seasoned or kiln-dried wood below 20% moisture, get the stove up to temperature quickly rather than slumbering it overnight, and give the fire enough air to keep the glass clear. A stove burnt this way usually needs sweeping once a season.

Price

A single stove sweep is £80 including your certificate. A second appliance or flue at the same property is priced on request — tell us when you book and we'll confirm before the visit.
