FAQs
Chimney sweeping questions, answered
The things customers ask most often before booking their first sweep with us.
How often should my chimney be swept?
It depends on what you burn and how often. As a general guide, chimneys used with wood or smokeless fuel are usually swept once a year, and heavier or year-round use may need sweeping more often. We'll advise you at the appointment based on what we find in your flue.
How long does a chimney sweep take?
A standard single-appliance sweep usually takes around 45 minutes to an hour, including protecting the room, sweeping, checking the flue, smoke testing and issuing your certificate.
Will it make a mess?
No. Dust sheets go down, the hearth is sealed and a HEPA vacuum runs throughout the sweep. The room is left as we found it.
Do I get a certificate?
Yes. An insurance-approved sweeping certificate is issued after every sweep, which is what most home insurers ask to see.
How much does it cost?
A standard chimney sweep is £80. Additional appliances or flues are priced on request, and commercial work is quoted individually.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
No deposit is taken when you book. Payment is due after the sweep is complete.
What do I need to do before you arrive?
Let the fire go out at least 24 hours before the appointment, clear ornaments and furniture from around the hearth, and make sure there's space to work and access to a power socket.
Which areas do you cover?
We cover Lincoln and the surrounding Lincolnshire villages. Each weekday is anchored to a particular area, so the booking form only offers days we're working near you.
Can you sweep a wood-burning stove?
Yes. Stoves are swept through the appliance with the correct rods and brushes for your flue liner, and we check the baffle, rope seals and glass condition while we're there.
Do you work with landlords, holiday lets and commercial premises?
Yes. We look after landlords, holiday parks, pubs, schools and estates with scheduled visits and certificates issued per appliance.
